ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Freedom from discrimination

Freedom from discrimination means that everyone should be treated fairly and given equal opportunities regardless of things like their skin color, religion, gender, age or ethnic background.

Let's imagine we were all toys in a big toy box. Some toys are bigger, some are smaller, some are stuffed animals while others are action figures. It's like how people have different traits too, some have curly hair while others have straight hair, some have blue eyes while others have brown eyes.

Now, imagine if the big toy box was only for certain types of toys. The bigger ones could play together, but the smaller ones couldn't. The toys that looked like stuffed animals could play together, but the action figures couldn't. How would that feel if you were one of the toys that wasn't allowed to play with other toys? It wouldn't feel very good, right?

This is what discrimination feels like. When someone is treated unfairly because they are different from others. But, in real life, discrimination can be even worse than not being able to play with other toys. It can mean that someone is not allowed to go to school, get a job, or even be treated fairly by the police.

Freedom from discrimination is important because it helps everyone to feel like they belong and are valued in our society. We should all be treated with respect and given the same opportunities to succeed. Just like how all the toys in the toy box should be able to play together, no matter what they look like.
