The French Wars of Religion happened a long time ago in France. People in France were fighting because they could not agree on what religion they wanted to have. Some people wanted to have a religion called Catholicism, and others didn't want that religion because they thought it was wrong. The people who didn't want to have Catholicism were called Protestants.
The wars started because both groups wanted to be in charge and have their religion be the one that everyone followed. They fought many battles and it was a very long and sad time in French history. Many people died and many families were torn apart.
Finally, a king named Henry IV decided to end the fighting. He said that people could have the religion they wanted and he promised to protect them no matter what religion they had. This was called the Edict of Nantes and it helped to end the wars.
Today, France is a country where people can practice any religion they want without being punished or discriminated against. Although the wars were a sad time in history, they taught people the importance of tolerance and respect for other people's beliefs.
