Frog pond effect

Have you ever been to a pond and seen a bunch of frogs hopping around? The way they jump in and out of the water creates ripples and waves that spread throughout the pond.

Now, imagine that instead of frogs, we had a bunch of heat energy in the Earth's atmosphere. Just like how the frogs cause ripples in the pond, this energy can also cause ripples in our climate. We call this the "frog pond effect", which is actually a real scientific term known as positive feedback.

Positive feedback happens when something causes a change, and that change makes the original thing happen even more. Think of it like a snowball rolling down a hill. The more snow it gathers, the bigger it gets, and the faster it rolls.

So, in the case of the frog pond effect, when heat energy gets trapped in the atmosphere (which happens because of things like burning fossil fuels), it causes the Earth to warm up. This warming then causes more heat energy to be released, which makes the Earth warm up even more.

In other words, just like how a frog jumping into a pond creates ripples that spread throughout the water, the trapped heat energy in our atmosphere creates a chain reaction of warming that continues to get worse unless we take action to stop it.
