Fruit tree forms

A fruit tree form is the shape of a tree when it has grown up. There are lots of different fruit tree forms, depending on the kind of tree it is. Some of the most common forms include Pyramid, Vase, Central Leader, Open Center and Cordon.

A Pyramid shape usually has a lot of branches coming from the main trunk and the branches grow outward and upward, forming a triangle shape.

A Vase shape has a single trunk at the bottom and the branches grow outward and upward making it look like a vase.

The Central Leader shape has a trunk at the center and the branches grow out and up from it, forming a cone shape.

The Open Center form has a trunk at the center and the branches grow out and up in all directions.

The Cordon shape has a central trunk and the branches are trained in one direction. This helps to get more sunlight and air to the fruit.
