Garae-tteok

Garae-tteok is a type of Korean rice cake. Rice is a type of grain that is small and white. To make garae-tteok, people start by soaking the rice in water for a long time until it gets soft. Then, they grind the rice into a paste, which is like a thick, sticky batter.

Next, the paste is steamed, which means it is cooked with hot steam instead of in a pan or in the oven. After it is steamed, the rice cake turns out to be white and looks a bit like tofu, which is a type of food made with soybeans.

Finally, the garae-tteok is cut into pieces that look like small bars or cylinders. They have a chewy texture, which means they are a bit tough to eat and you need to chew them for a while before swallowing them.

In Korea, garae-tteok is often eaten as a snack or dessert. Sometimes, people will cook it in a soup or mix it with other ingredients like soy sauce, sesame oil, or honey to give it more flavor. Kids like garae-tteok because it's fun to chew and it's a little bit sweet!
