Gas venting

Okay kiddo, so when we use gas like propane or natural gas in our homes, sometimes there can be too much pressure building up in the pipes. This is not good because high pressure can be dangerous and cause the pipes to break.

To make sure this doesn't happen, there are little things called gas vents that let out the extra pressure. Think of it like a little escape hatch for the gas. The vent is usually a small pipe that sticks up from the roof of a house or building.

When there's too much pressure in the gas pipes, some of the gas goes up into the vent and out into the air. This way the pressure can go down and the pipes won't break. But don't worry, it's not like all the gas is going out into the air all the time. The little bit that comes out of the vent is not harmful as long as you're not right up close to it.

Gas venting is important to keep us safe and make sure our gas appliances and heaters work properly. So next time you see a little pipe sticking up from the roof of a building, you'll know what it's for!
