ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gene flow

Gene flow is just like when you and your friends share toys. In the same way, genes can be shared between different groups of the same type of living thing, like plants or animals. When different groups of plants or animals have offspring with each other, they share their genes. This can happen when seeds, pollen, or animals move from one group to another. It's like when you and your friends play together and then go home and tell your siblings about the new toy you played with - they might now want to play with it too! Gene flow helps to create more genetic diversity in a population and can help it adapt to different environments. However, it can also affect the population's unique traits and characteristics, so it's important to study and understand gene flow when looking at the evolution of a species.
