Punctuation are the marks we use in sentences to help make sense of what we are saying. It helps us know when to pause or stop and also helps us convey our feelings or emotions. Here are some examples:
- Periods (.) are like tiny stop signs. We use them at the end of a sentence to show that we are finished saying something.
- Commas (,) help us separate things in a sentence. For example, we use commas to separate items in a list, like "I ate apples, bananas, and oranges for breakfast." We also use commas to separate clauses in a sentence, like "I went to the store, and then I went to the park."
- Question marks (?) are like signposts that tell us when someone is asking a question. So, when we see a question mark, we know we need to answer the question.
- Exclamation marks (!) are like little explosions that show excitement, surprise, or strong emotions. We use them to make our writing more interesting and to show our feelings.
- Apostrophes (') are like little hooks that show possession or missing letters. For example, "That's" is short for "that is." And, "John's bike" means the bike belongs to John.
So, by using punctuation we can write sentences that are clear, easy to read, and more fun!
