General covariance

General covariance is a term that describes something that is able to change and be used in different ways. For example, imagine a toy car that you can build from different pieces. The pieces can fit together in lots of different ways, so the car can look different each time you build it. The car is "general covariant" because it can be changed and rearranged in different ways.
