ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Genetic diversity

Genetic diversity is like the number of different things inside the DNA of a living creature. Every living creature has their own unique pattern of DNA made up of different things called genes. Since different things make up each creature's DNA, it is like everyone or every creature is playing a different version of the same game. Having diversity in an environment means that many different things and players can exist in the same area. Genetic diversity is important because it helps plants and animals survive changes in the environment that could otherwise make them sick or unable to reproduce.
