ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Geoparsing

Geoparsing is like a game of "I Spy" for computers. We tell the computer to look at a bunch of words, like a sentence or a paragraph, and find the words that tell us where things are happening in the world.

For example, let's say we give the computer this sentence: "I went to New York City and saw the Statue of Liberty." The computer knows that "New York City" is a place, and it can figure out that the Statue of Liberty is also in that place.

Geoparsing is helpful because it can help us understand where things are happening in the world. It can help us study things like geography, politics, and the environment. It's like having a really smart map that can tell us about all the places we're talking about.
