Geophysical survey (archaeology)

When we want to learn about things that happened a long long time ago, sometimes we need to dig up the ground to find clues. But digging can take a lot of time and be very expensive. That’s where geophysical survey comes in!

Geophysical survey is like taking a big, super fancy picture of what’s under the ground without having to dig it up. Instead of using a camera or phone like we do to take pictures, archaeologists use special machines and tools. They send different kinds of energy, like sound waves or electricity, into the ground and measure how it bounces back.

This helps the archaeologists make a map of what’s under the ground without having to dig it up. They can see where things like big rocks, walls or ditches might be hiding down below. This means they can decide where they should dig and where they shouldn’t.

It’s like having superpowers to see through the ground!
