Geothermal power in Iceland

Geothermal power is like using the heat from a hot bath to make electricity that we can use to power our homes and businesses. Iceland is a country that is very lucky because it has a lot of hot water and steam that comes from the Earth's core. They call it a "geothermal" source.

In Iceland, they use pipes to collect the hot water and steam from the ground and send it to power plants. These power plants have special machines that can turn the heat into electricity that we can use. This process is very clean and doesn't create pollution like other types of power plants.

Because Iceland has so much geothermal power, they are able to use it to provide almost all of their electricity. In fact, geothermal power provides over 70% of their energy needs! That's a lot of electricity!

Not only is geothermal power good for the environment, but it's also very cost-effective. Because Iceland has so much of it, they don't have to pay for expensive imports of oil or gas to power their country.

So, Iceland is very lucky to have a natural resource like geothermal power. It's good for the environment, good for their economy, and good for their people.
