Energy in Iceland

Okay kiddo, Iceland is a really cool place because it's full of energy! But not the kind of energy you get from drinking soda or eating candy - this is a special kind of energy that comes from the earth.

You know how sometimes you see steam coming out of a pot when your mom is cooking? Well, Iceland is full of hot water and steam like that, because it's located on top of a bunch of volcanoes and geysers. That hot water and steam can be used to make electricity, kind of like how a windmill can make electricity when the blades spin around.

Iceland is really good at using this hot water and steam to make energy. They have big power plants that use it to make electricity that powers the whole country. In fact, they get almost all of their electricity from renewable resources like geothermal power (that's the hot water and steam we talked about) and hydroelectric power (which comes from big dams they've built to control the flow of water in rivers).

Because they're so good at using renewable energy, Iceland doesn't have to worry about having enough oil or gas to make electricity like some other countries do. They can be proud of that and you can see that Iceland is a very special place!
