German reunification was when East Germany and West Germany, who had been separated by the borders of the Iron Curtain during the time of the Cold War, joined back together and became one country. After World War II, the Allies (which included the U.S., U.K., France, and the Soviet Union) divided Germany into two different countries, East Germany and West Germany. East Germany was a socialist state, and West Germany was a capitalist country. For 40 years, East and West Germany were separated until 1989 when the Berlin Wall that separated them began to come down and people from East Germany were allowed to travel to West Germany. This eventually led to the reunification of the two countries in 1990.
