Okay kiddo, have you ever seen people dancing in really fluffy and flowy outfits that look like they're made of grass or leaves? That's called a Ghillie dance! It's a traditional dance from Scotland and Ireland that's usually done at big celebrations like weddings or festivals.
The dancers wear special shoes called ghillies (that's where the dance gets its name!). Ghillies are kind of like ballet shoes, but they don't have a hard sole. Instead, they have soft leather that wraps around the foot and ankle. This helps the dancers move really gracefully and make big, sweeping steps across the floor.
The rest of the outfit usually includes a skirt or kilt that's made of lots of long strands of fabric, which is called a skirt. Sometimes the strands are just plain white, and sometimes they're colorful or decorated with patterns. When the dancers spin or twirl around, the skirt flares out and makes a kind of swirl that looks really pretty!
Ghillie dances usually happen in groups, with lots of people moving in patterns together. The dancers might also form little circles or squares and move together in time with the music. It takes a lot of practice and teamwork to get all the steps just right, but when it works, it's really beautiful to watch!
