ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Giambattista Vico

Giambattista Vico was an Italian philosopher who lived in the 1600s. He studied history, philosophy, and linguistics. He believed that history was a repeating cycle and that people could understand one another better by studying their past and their language. He also thought that language and culture were closely linked, and that knowledge could not be separated from morality. He wrote an important book called the New Science, which set out his theories and ideas.
