ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Glasgow patter

Glasgow Patter is a way of speaking that some people in the city of Glasgow use. It is like a special language that they have which uses certain words and phrases that are unique to Glasgow. It might sound a bit different to how people in other parts of Scotland or the UK speak.

For example, instead of saying "hello" you might hear people in Glasgow say "awright pal?" And instead of saying "thank you," people might say "cheers" or "ta."

There are also some words and phrases in Glasgow Patter that you might not hear anywhere else. For example, if someone says "pure dead brilliant," that means they think something is really, really good. And if someone says "am pure starving," that means they are very hungry.

It may seem a bit confusing at first, but once you get used to it, it can be a fun way to speak with people from Glasgow and understand their unique culture and history.
