ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gotthold Eisenstein

Gotthold Eisenstein was a really smart man who lived a long time ago and knew a lot about numbers. He discovered a lot of cool things about numbers, like how they can be split into smaller pieces and added back together in different ways to make the same number. He also found out about something called modular arithmetic, which is like playing with numbers but with rules that keep them from getting too big. Eisenstein was so good with numbers that other really smart people would ask him for help with problems they couldn't solve. People still learn about his ideas and use them today because he was one of the first people to figure out how numbers work in a really detailed way.
