ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Goulash

Alright kiddo, have you ever heard of something called goulash? It's a really yummy meal that people from Hungary like to eat. Let me explain it to you like you're five years old.

First off, goulash is a soup or stew. Do you know what that is? It's a type of food that has a lot of pieces of meat and vegetables in a liquid, kind of like how mommy makes her chicken noodle soup.

Now, goulash is made with meat, usually beef, but sometimes pork or lamb. This meat is cut up into small pieces and cooked in a pot with onions and maybe some garlic. Then they add some spices like paprika, which gives goulash its bright red color, along with some caraway seeds, salt, and pepper.

After the meat and spices have cooked for a bit, they add some vegetables, like carrots, potatoes, and peppers. These vegetables soak up all the yummy flavors from the meat and spices, and they get nice and tender as they cook.

Finally, they add some liquid to make it into a stew. This can be either water or broth, which is like a soup base made from simmering meat and vegetables in water. And that's pretty much it! The goulash simmers on the stove for a few hours until everything is tender and the flavors have all mixed together.

Goulash is usually served hot with some bread, like a dinner roll or a slice of crusty bread. It's a perfect meal to warm you up on a cold winter day. And best of all, it's really easy to make! Maybe mommy can help you make it one day, and you can see for yourself how yummy it is.
