Greenhouse gases are gases that trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere. These gases, like water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane, come from the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil and from activities like farming and manufacturing. When the gases are released into the air, heat from the sun is trapped, causing temperatures to increase in the Earth's atmosphere. This is known as the "greenhouse effect", and as the Earth gets warmer, it is more difficult for us to live on the planet.
