ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ground (electricity)

Ground in electricity is like a magic hole where all the extra electricity goes. When we use electricity, it travels through wires and when it is done being used, it needs somewhere to go. That's where ground comes in.

Just like we use a plug to connect a toy to electricity, we also use a ground wire. The ground wire is like a safety net for the electricity. If there is too much electricity, it goes into the ground wire and then into the ground. This keeps us safe from getting shocked or hurt.

The ground is also important for things like lightning. When lightning strikes, it can be very dangerous because it has a lot of electricity. But if the lightning goes into the ground, it can't hurt us.

So, ground is like a special place where electricity goes when it's done being used or when it's too much. It keeps us safe from getting shocked and it's also important for lightning.
