ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gun violence in the United States by state

Okay kiddo, so gun violence is when someone uses a gun to hurt or kill another person. It is a big problem in the United States because there are a lot of guns around and some people use them in a bad way.

Now, each state in the US is like a big family that has its own rules and way of doing things. Some states have more gun violence than others. This could be because they have more guns around or because the people there are more likely to use them in a bad way.

The government keeps track of all the gun violence that happens in each state. They count how many people get hurt or killed by guns and where it happens. This helps them to figure out if there is a problem in that state that needs to be fixed.

Some states have more gun violence because there are a lot of gangs or because the people there feel like they need guns to protect themselves. Other states have stricter gun laws which means it is harder to get a gun and use it in a bad way.

It's important to remember that guns can be dangerous and we should only use them in a safe and responsible way. And if we ever feel scared or threatened, we should always tell an adult or call the police for help.
