Haibutsu kishaku

Well kiddo, haibutsu kishaku is a big word that means something very important that happened many years ago in Japan.

You see, Japan used to have a special type of religion called Buddhism, and many people used to believe in it and practice it. But then, some powerful people in Japan decided that they wanted to erase Buddhism from Japan and replace it with a different religion called Shinto.

So these powerful people started destroying temples and statues that were related to Buddhism. They wanted to get rid of everything that reminded people of Buddhism so that they could forget about it and only practice Shinto.

This was very unfair because many people loved Buddhism and didn't want to give it up. But they were afraid to speak out because the powerful people were very mean and could punish them if they tried to stop them.

Eventually, some brave people started standing up against the powerful people and saying that they didn't like what they were doing. They wanted to keep their religion and their way of life.

This is what haibutsu kishaku means - it means "destroy Buddha and kill the priests." It was a very sad and scary time in Japan's history, but it also showed that people can be strong and fight for what they believe in, even when it's hard.
