Halt and Catch Fire (computing)

Halt and Catch Fire is a phrase used to describe an instruction that can be given to a computer to stop all its activities and freeze, or catch fire. Basically, when this instruction is given, the computer will shut down and not do anything else until another instruction is given. This instruction is often used as a way to help protect the computer from damage or to make sure that no one can access its data without permission.
