Harsch crock

Okay kiddo, a harsch crock is a special kind of container that is used for making pickles or fermenting vegetables.

When you put vegetables in the harsch crock with some salt and water, they begin to ferment. This means that the bacteria in the vegetables start to break down the sugars and create acid.

But, the harsch crock is special because it has a lid with a water seal. That means that air can't get in, but gases can escape. This keeps the vegetables safe and helps them ferment properly.

Sometimes, people also put a weight on top of the vegetables to keep them submerged in the water. This helps to prevent any mold or bad bacteria from growing on them.

After a few weeks, the vegetables will be ready to eat and will have a tangy, sour flavor. So, that's basically what a harsch crock does - it helps you make yummy pickles!
