Hauptvermutung

Okay, kiddo, let me tell you a story about the hauptvermutung. Imagine that you have a big puzzle with lots of different pieces that fit together to make a picture. Now imagine that there are two different ways that you could put these puzzle pieces together to create the same picture. That would be pretty confusing, wouldn't it?

For example, we can use topology to study the shapes of molecules or the way that the human brain is wired together. And if we can answer the hauptvermutung, it will give us even more tools for understanding these things.
