Heat Transfer

Heat transfer is when energy is moved from one place that is hot to a place that is cooler. Heat transfer happens in three different ways - conduction, convection and radiation.

Conduction is heat transfer through direct contact between two objects - like when you put a spoon in a hot cup of soup and the spoon warms up.

Convection is when heat is transferred through a liquid or gas - like when hot air rises from a radiator or cold air moves down when you turn on the air conditioner.

Radiation is when heat travels through space - like when you stand in the sun and feel its warmth on your skin.
