ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

High Sierra Trail

The High Sierra Trail is a super awesome walking path that we grown-ups go on! It's like a big adventure where you get to see all kinds of cool things like big mountains, pretty trees, rivers, and even some cute animals.

To get started on the High Sierra Trail, we usually go to a place called Sequoia National Park. We pack up our backpacks with all the things we need, like food, water, and a sleeping bag. On the way, we stop to take pictures with the big trees that we call Sequoias. These are really tall trees, so tall that we can hardly see the top even if we look up really high!

Now, we start walking on the High Sierra Trail. Sometimes the walk is easy and it's fun to talk and look at everything around us. But other times, we have to climb over rocks, and that can be a bit tricky. We take our time and make sure we are safe, always with our grown-ups close by!

We keep walking and come across lots of different kinds of landscapes. We walk through big meadows that look like giant carpets of grass and flowers! From a distance we can see snowy mountains, which are really pretty. We cross rivers on these thin metal wires called bridges, and sometimes the water is really cold!

We stop to rest, eat and drink water when we need it, and then we keep walking. Sometimes we get a little tired, but we don't give up! We keep going because we know that soon we will make it to the end of the trail.

Finally, after walking for days, we reach the highest point of the High Sierra Trail. It's called the Mount Whitney Summit, and it’s taller than all the other mountains we've seen before. We feel so happy and proud because we worked hard to get all the way here! We take a lot of pictures to remember this amazing adventure.

After that, we turn back around and start walking back to where we started from. On the way back, we get to see everything we saw before but in a different way! We feel really proud of ourselves for walking so far and having such an awesome adventure.
