The Highland Clearances were a time period in Scottish history when many people were forced to leave their homes in the Scottish Highlands. During this time, landlords wanted to make more money from their land. To do that, they needed to get rid of the people living there, so they sold the land to sheep farmers. As a result, many people were forced to leave their homes and had to find new places to live. It was very difficult for these people because they had to start over with nothing, and many of them ended up leaving Scotland altogether. The Highland Clearances led to a lot of hardship and sadness in Scotland.
