ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Highway Addressable Remote Transducer Protocol

So imagine you have a bunch of different toys in your room, like a stuffed animal, a ball, and a toy car. You want to be able to control each toy and know what they're doing, but you're too far away to reach them all yourself. That's where the highway addressable remote transducer protocol (or HART for short) comes in.

HART is like a messenger that helps you communicate with and control your toys from far away. It sends messages back and forth between your room and a special device called a controller, which is like your boss toy that tells you what to do. HART makes it possible for the controller to read data from each toy, like how fast the toy car is going or how much air is inside the ball.

But HART doesn't just send messages willy-nilly. It uses a special language to make sure everyone understands each other. Just like how people speak different languages around the world, your toys might speak different "languages" too. HART checks what language each toy speaks and then translates their messages so that the controller can understand them.

Overall, HART is like a friendly helper that makes it possible for you to keep an eye on all your toys and make sure they're doing what they're supposed to from far away.
