Hill reaction is a process that happens in plants when they use the energy from the sun. Plants absorb light energy from the sun with a special pigment called chlorophyll. This energy is used to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen is released into the air as a gas, and the hydrogen is combined with carbon dioxide (CO2) to make a special sugar called glucose. Glucose is used as food for the plant and is also turned into other compounds that help the plant to live and grow.
