Hinman collator

Okay kiddo, so have you ever seen someone putting papers in a machine that checks if they match or not? That's called a collator. Now, the Hinman collator is a special kind of collator that was invented in the early 20th century by a man named Richmond P. Hinman.

Basically, the Hinman collator was used to compare printed sheets of stamps to make sure they were all the same. This was really important back then because stamps were used as a way to send letters and packages, and if the stamps weren't all the same, people might think the mail was fake or not trustworthy.

The Hinman collator used two different light sources to compare the sheets of stamps. The first light would make the ink on the stamps glow, and the second light would show any imperfections or differences between the sheets. If two stamps didn't match exactly, the machine would beep to let the operator know there was a problem.

So basically, the Hinman collator was a machine that made sure all the stamps were the same, and helped people trust the mail they were sending and receiving.
