History of Spain

Spain's history goes back thousands of years! It was once part of the Roman Empire and then was taken over by different groups, like the Visigoths, until it finally became a Christian country in the 800s. In the 1400s and 1500s, Spain became one of the greatest empires in the world, when it conquered parts of the Americas, the Philippines, and much of Africa. This time is often called the Spanish Golden Age. In the 1700s, Spain lost a lot of the power it had gained but still remained a powerful country. In the 1800s, it became a monarchy and democracy has been in place since the 1930s. In the last few decades, Spain has moved further towards internationalism and is now one of the most influential countries in Europe and the world.
