History of spaceflight

Spaceflight is the name given to anything that travels beyond the atmosphere of Earth. People have been interested in exploring space for centuries, but it wasn't until the 20th century that spaceflight became possible. In the 1950s, the first satellite was launched into orbit. A satellite is a device that sends back pictures or data from space. In 1961, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person to travel into space in a spacecraft. Since then, people have been exploring space in various ways such as sending robots to explore planets, launching telescopes that help see far away stars, and even sending astronauts to the moon. Space exploration is a never-ending journey and has become an important part of our daily lives.
