Timeline of space exploration

Space exploration is like a big adventure that Humans have started taking. It's like we are exploring places in outer space. For the past 100 years or so, humans have been learning more and more about space and making it easier to explore. Here's a timeline of the most important events related to space exploration:

1900s - Rockets are invented and people start dreaming of travelling to space.

1945 - Germany launches the first ever working rocket, called V2.

1957 - The Soviets launch Sputnik 1, the first man made satellite.

1961 - Yuri Gagarin becomes the first human to travel in space and orbit around the earth.

1969 - The Americans land two astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, on the moon.

1981 - The Space Shuttle program is launched by NASA.

1986 - The Russian space station Mir is launched into space.

1995 - The first pieces of the International Space Station are launched into space.

1998 - The first living creature to be cloned from a cell is a sheep named Dolly.

2004 - The European Space Agency sends a probe to land on a comet.

2011 - The first humans visit an asteroid with the spacecraft Dawn.

2016 - SpaceX launches the first ever reusable rocket.

2020 - Astronauts launch to the International Space Station aboard a SpaceX rocket.
