ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hitchhiking

Hitchhiking is like asking a stranger for a ride in their car when you need to go somewhere. It's like when you ask your friend's mom for a ride home after school because your mom is running late. Only instead of asking someone you know, you are asking people you don't know.

Sometimes people hitchhike when they want to go on an adventure, but they don't have a car or the money to take a taxi or bus. People also hitchhike if they need to get to a place that is far away, and they don't have their own car or don't want to spend a lot of money on a ride.

When you want to hitchhike, you stand on the side of the road with your thumb pointing up, as if you're saying "Hey, can I get a ride?" You wait for a driver to see you and decide to stop and pick you up.

It's important to remember that not everyone who drives by will stop for you, and not everyone who does stop will be safe or trustworthy. That's why it's important to only hitchhike in safe areas, and to make sure you have your own phone or other way to contact someone if you need help.

Overall, hitchhiking can be a fun and exciting way to travel, but it's important to always be safe and cautious.
