Hokkaido dialects

Okay kiddo, Hokkaido is a big island in Japan. Just like how people in different parts of America or England have different ways of talking, the people in Hokkaido also have their own way of talking. They call it a "dialect."

Some people might pronounce words different or use different words altogether depending on where they live in Hokkaido. For example, someone in the southern part of Hokkaido might say "chimaki" instead of "bamboo leaf wrapped rice cake" like someone in the northern part might say.

These dialects are special to the people in Hokkaido and make their way of talking unique. It's kind of like if you and your friend talked a secret language that only the two of you know. It makes you feel special and connected with each other.
