Holodomor Genocide Memorial

Hi there, kiddo! So, do you know what a memorial is? It's like a special place that we set up to remember something or someone important.

The Holodomor Genocide Memorial is a special memorial set up to remember a very sad event that happened in Ukraine a long time ago. See, a long time ago in 1932-1933, there was a really bad famine in Ukraine. Famine means that there was not enough food for everyone to eat, and people were very hungry.

So, why was there a famine? Well, it's because some powerful people in the government at that time didn't like Ukraine and wanted to punish the Ukrainian people. So, they took away all the food and crops from the Ukrainian people and wouldn't let them have anything to eat. This was done on purpose, which is why it's called a genocide - it means that people were deliberately hurt and killed because of who they were.

Lots and lots of people died during this time, and it was very scary and sad for the Ukrainian people. That's why the Holodomor Genocide Memorial was set up - to remember and honor all those who suffered and died during this horrible time. The memorial is a place where people can go and pay their respects and remember what happened. It's important to remember these sad parts of history so that we can work together to make sure they never happen again.
