ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Homo longi

Homo longi is a big word that is used to talk about a new type of people that scientists are trying to learn more about. They think that these people might have lived a long time ago and might be related to humans like us.

Imagine that you have a family tree, just like the ones that you make in school. Your family tree shows all of the people who are related to you and who came before you. Scientists have family trees too, but theirs are really, really big because they are trying to figure out where all humans and human-like creatures come from.

So, Homo longi might be a new person on the scientist's family tree. They have found some bones that they think might belong to Homo longi, and by studying those bones, they can learn more about what Homo longi might have looked like and how they might have lived.

Some scientists think that Homo longi might have lived at the same time as other types of humans, like Homo sapiens (that's us!) and Neanderthals. They might have even met and interacted with each other!

But there is still a lot to learn about Homo longi, so scientists will keep looking for more clues and studying their bones. Then they can add them to the family tree and learn more about our history!
