ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Honey bee starvation

Okay kiddo, let me break it down for you. Honey bees are special insects that collect nectar from flowers to make honey. Just like us, they need food to survive. If they don't have enough food, they can become really hungry and that's called starvation.

Now, bees collect food from flowers all day long during the warmer months, but in the colder months there aren't as many flowers and the bees can have trouble finding food. Also, bees can get sick and not be able to leave the hive to find food.

When honey bees are starving, they become weak and can't fly very well. They might start crawling instead of flying or they might just stay in the hive. Their colony might start to shrink because bees could be too weak to protect their hive or because they might die from starvation.

That's why it's important for beekeepers and other people to make sure that honey bees have enough food to eat. They can help by planting more flowers and reducing or eliminating the use of harmful pesticides that can hurt the bees. And that's all there is to it!
