Horror vacui (physics)

In physics, horror vacui means "fear of empty space". It's a kind of force that tries to fill any empty space. Think of it like blowing up a balloon. When you blow air into the balloon it gets bigger until it can't fit any more air. That's because the air is trying to fill all the empty space inside the balloon. It's the same with horror vacui – it's trying to fill any empty space.
