Huabiao

Huabiao is a traditional Chinese symbol of authority. They are tall columns made of stone or wood that stand on either side of roads leading to important places. The columns are carved with a dragon symbolizing the power of the emperor and a phoenix, symbolizing luck and peace. The columns usually have a writing on them that gives the name of the place and the year it was made. They are symbols of authority and make people feel more safe and respected when passing them.
