ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hybrid sulfur cycle

The hybrid sulfur cycle is like a big science experiment that helps make electricity using something called sulfur. Just like how you need different ingredients to make a cake, this experiment needs certain things to work.

First, scientists take some water and mix it with sulfur dioxide gas (which is made by burning something called sulfur). This creates something called sulfuric acid, which is very strong and can dissolve many things.

Next, they add some more things called hydrogen sulfide gas and carbon dioxide gas to the sulfuric acid. This creates a new chemical called sulfurous acid.

Then, they add some special bacteria to the mix! These bacteria help turn the sulfurous acid into a gas called elemental sulfur.

Finally, the scientists can use this sulfur gas to make electricity. It's like magic!

So basically, the hybrid sulfur cycle is a way for scientists to use a chemical reaction to make electricity by starting with sulfur, adding some ingredients like water and hydrogen sulfide, and using special bacteria to make it into a gas called elemental sulfur.
