Hypergamy

Hypergamy is the practice of someone marrying another person who is of higher social status or higher wealth than them. Basically, someone who is hypergamous wants to marry someone who is better off than they are. This is different from hypogamy, which is when someone marries someone who is of a lower social status or lower wealth than them.
