The Icarus Complex is a metaphor that refers to something that happens when someone reaches too high or too far and then crashes, usually because they wanted too much. It's named after a character in Greek mythology called Icarus, who made wings from feathers and wax so that he could fly like a bird. He flew too close to the sun, however, and the heat melted the wax, so he was not able to stay in the air and get back to safety. He ended up crashing and dying. This same thing can happen in other areas of life when someone is too ambitious and tries to reach too high or too far. They might end up crashing and not meeting their goals.
