ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ident protocol

Ident protocol is a way used by computers to identify each other on a network. It is like when you meet someone in real life, you ask their name so you know who you are talking to. Ident protocol does the same thing for computers, it lets them ask each other their “name” on the network so that they can talk to each other. This is really important because it lets computers understand who is sending messages to them and make sure the messages are from who they think they are from. This helps keep the computers and the information they share safe.
