ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ilium (bone)

Hello little one, the ilium is one of the three bones that make up your pelvis. It's the big flat bone you can feel on the sides of your lower belly, just below your waist.

The ilium helps support your weight when you stand or walk, and it also protects your organs in your lower abdomen such as your bladder and intestines. It has a few bumpy parts that your muscles attach to, making it important for movement and stability while you run, jump or dance around.

Also, the ilium has a distinct shape that helps to give us our unique body structure. In summary, the ilium is a strong and important bone that helps us move and keeps our organs safe.
