ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Image scanning

Image scanning is when you take a picture or a drawing and turn it into a digital picture that you can see on a computer. It's kind of like taking a picture of a picture!

To do this, you need a special machine called a scanner. You put the picture or drawing on a flat surface on the scanner and then you close the lid. The scanner uses a bright light to take a picture of the picture or drawing. It's important to make sure the picture or drawing is flat on the scanner so that everything looks clear.

Once the scanner takes the picture, it turns it into a digital file that the computer can read. This file is called an image. You can now see the image on your computer screen and you can even edit it or print it out.

Image scanning is helpful when you want to save a physical copy of a picture or document on your computer. It also makes it easy to share pictures and documents with others who are far away.
