ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Income tax

Okay, so imagine you get a big box of candy from your grandma. You're so happy because you love candy! But then your mom says that you have to share some of the candy with your brother and sister because it's not fair if you keep it all to yourself.

Income tax works kind of like that. When you earn money from working, the government says you have to share some of it with them to help pay for things like roads, schools, and hospitals.

So, let's say you get $10 for walking the neighbor's dog. The government might say you have to give them $1 of that money (that's called a tax). If you make more money, you might have to give them more taxes too.

But don't worry, the government will use that money to help everyone in the country have the things they need. And you can still keep some of your candy money to spend on things you want!
